Sleightly Wacky Packets

by B. Robert Pulver

A Connecticut Yankee

This effect is very loosely based on Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court."  In that tale, a man from the future finds himself in the legendary Camelot amongst King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.  His knowledge of "modern" industry and inventions influences the course of history.  Of course,  neither you nor your audience needs to have read the novel to enjoy this unique and visual effect.

The Effect:

Four "antique" cards are shown, depicting King Arthur, Lady Guinevere, Sir Lancelot, and Merlin the magician.  A fifth card is shown: a modern Joker (man from the future).  The Joker's influence on Camelot causes the other cards to become "modernized" one by one.  The first three change into a present-day King, Queen, and Jack, respectively.  But what became of Merlin?  Legend has it that Merlin was immortal.  The card now sports YOUR picture!

Note: Several suggested card designs are provided.  You can also customize the card any way you like.

Disclaimer: This effect requires custom-printed gaff cards. Instructions are provided for making simple and inexpensive versions. However, knowledge of and experience in card-splitting and/or other techniques for creating/printing custom-made gaff cards are recommended if a professional quality card is desired.
